The Relief Consultants Case Studies

~ Victor became unemployed in March of 2020 and filed a claim in June of 2020. He got an award letter for benefits in August, but this claim was dated late August, so none of his federal aid was available.
~ He had a disqualification lingering from an old unemployment claim and was erroneously disqualified due to a mistake in EDD’s records. The claim said that he was fired due to an argument with his safety supervisor in 2019.
~ Victor’s new claim wasn’t paying due to this old disqualification, so he called EDD and EDD said that they would remove the mistake, back date his claim, and Victor could receive the benefits he was entitled to for losing his job back in March.
~ When the EDD sent Victor a card, he assumed he was good to go, but because none of his certifications got approved, there was no money on Victor’s benefits card.
~ For weeks, Victor tried to get this resolved via phone by calling the EDD, waiting for hours on end. After finally reaching someone, they said they would backdate his claim, yet nothing ever happened.
~ Frustrated, Victor saw our add on YouTube and booked an appointment with Ben.
~ Ben got Victor on the phone with EDD specialist no more than an hour after signing up, and Ben was able to request a backdate to Victor’s claim (asked why his benefits were not paying out) – and discovered the wrongful disqualification.
~ Victor’s application showed his last day of work as March 25th, so Ben, with his experience, questioned why his claim wasn’t dated March 25. The EDD specialist agreed and said she would request that backdate.
~ Ben logged into Victor’s UI Online account, looked at his history and saw an old claim from 2019 with the disqualification.
~ Ben asked if this old claim was affecting his current benefits, and the EDD specialist said that it was, but it should not be – she could then go ahead and remove the disqualification and process the backdate.
~ The EDD then explained this situation is called a re-comp and was going to take 2-4 weeks, depending on their workload for this to process.
~ After a few moments of back and forth discussion, it was identified that the reason the backdate was not going through, was that Victor needed to exhaust the benefits remaining on his old claim before he could be placed on a new one.
~ The agent was stunned by Ben’s knowledge – she placed the re-comp request for the weeks beginning his last day of work until the last day of his old claim (June 21)
~ Finally, Victor got his first chunk of payments from his last day of work (March 25) through June 21st.
~ Two weeks later, after Victor had got his first chunk, his new claim did not activate, so Ben had to call back with Victor and request his new claim be re-comped again, to pay him out from the weeks between June 22nd through present at that point (Jan 21, ‘21)
~ This took another two weeks, but after waiting patiently, victor was able to collect his check.

On February 6th, 2021, Victor received his benefit card with just over $20,000 on it.
